In May 2020, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) announced its plan to build a $12 billion foundry in Arizona using 5-nano meters technologies, to serve the world’s dire need for cutting-edge chips as a result of the emergence of AI and 5G technologies. Not only did the news send a shockwave through the world immediately, but it also drew the strategic bond between Taiwan and Arizona to our attention again. In March 2021, Intel also said it would shovel $20 billion into two new semiconductor plants in Arizona. The world’s two-chip giants’ great minds think alike, highlighting the competitive edges Arizona possesses.
In fact, Taiwan and Arizona have been deeply connected. Aiming at strengthening the strategic partnership between Taiwan and Arizona, Taiwan-USA Industrial cooperation Promotion Office (TUSA), Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), and the
Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) join hands in organizing this event, to facilitate industrial cooperation thus expanding business opportunities and creating mutual benefits for both. The speakers will share their information in regard to the investment environment and business prospects that the strategic alliance may create.
