TAIROA, together with nine institutes from the production and research fields, would be the best platform for promoting the localization of semiconductor equipment
The semiconductor industry in Taiwan no doubt is a key force in the global supply chain, and being part of this force, it has two main focuses: the “Advanced semiconductor manufacturing center” and the “High-end production hub for Asia”. They are not only focal points that are helping Taiwanese industries upgrade to another level, but also an important part of the government’s plan. These two main focal points involve the localization of the material supply, self-sufficiency in technology, localization of the equipment manufacturing of foreign companies, and localization of advanced packaging equipment.
Since 2015, TAIROA has actively promoted multiple win-win strategies in resource integration and cross-industry cooperation. A significant cross-industry memorandum signed in 2016 by TAIROA, Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association (TSIA), Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), and Taiwan Machine Tool & Accessory Builder’s Association (TMBA), has opened up a new path by this alliance of semiconductors and smart machinery, multiplying the effects of the “super alliance”, and a strong foundation to “play the international cup”. It has made Taiwan’s machine tools and industrial machinery upgrade to a smart machinery level in order to solve the bottleneck problems for Industry 4.0 Internet of Things (IOT), as well as to combine the IC design industry and semiconductor-related industries and move towards self-manufacture of sensors (industrial IC) and with a high level of value-added.
Being advanced in developing semiconductor equipment for many years, some of our members are Wafer robot producers, designers and producers of IC packaging, testing equipment factories, panel factory process equipment producers, inspection and refurbishment equipment producers, semiconductor automation equipment producers, and so on. For the purpose of broadening cooperation, accelerating its effect, and building a greater semiconductor and electronics-related equipment industrial ecosystem, TAIROA, presented by the chairman SSU,KUO-YI , today (12/2) together with TMBA, TEEIA, SEMI, PIDA, ITRI, MIRDC, PMC, and III, will sign a “Memorandum of Cooperation on Promoting the Localization of Semiconductor Equipment and Cross-industry Alliance” , which has been witnessed by Mr. Jong-Chin Shen, Vice Premier of Executive Yuan, Mr. Chi-Chang Tsai, Vice President of Legislative Yuan, Mr. Jer-Liang Yeh, Deputy Executive Secretary, Office of Science & Technology, Board of Science and Technology, Executive Yuan, and Ms. Pei-Li Chen, Secretary General of Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs.
Taiwan has always played a core role in the global semiconductor ecosystem, and it has been the largest consumer of semiconductor equipment in the world for the last decade. In addition, the government has always defined semiconductors as a strategic industry, which brings Taiwan to a leading place in both front-end and back-end production technology in semiconductor manufacturing. The U.S.-China technology war has set off a technology supply chain reorganization or adjustment globally. A new technological innovation cycle is beginning, which means that the technologies, such as 5G, IOT, AI, robots, and so on, will infuse the semiconductor field with a new technological innovation cycle and a new growth power, therefore, it is vital to expedite the competitiveness of Taiwan’s economic force. This alliance will enable Taiwan to produce high-end manufacturing equipment, select components locally, and to design in order to achieve high-end manufacturing goals. Relying on the members who are specialized in precision locating and inspection, visual sensing, intelligent system integration, and so on, TAIROA would support the localization development of semiconductor equipment, and help semiconductor enterprises in Taiwan to achieve more technological breakthroughs in high-tech and high-value-added links. Moreover, TAIROA will continue to promote industry intelligence, digitization, and develop innovative application solutions, making the intelligence of the industrial chain a reality. At the same time, it will actively contribute to the development of industrial technology innovation in Taiwan, and build up Taiwan’s industrial competitiveness.
